Remembering Kevin O’Connor
Dear friends and family,
It is with the heaviest heart we share with you the news of the passing of our beloved staff member, Kevin O’Connor. Kevin made his impact in our marketing and development departments and this news came as a shock to all of us.
Kevin was a gentle and kind part of our Suncoast family. He had an enormous heart for the animals and did everything possible to help Suncoast Humane Society’s homeless animals find forever homes.
Kevin had two rescued dogs himself: Captain and Hammer. Captain was adopted from Humane Society of Sarasota County, and Hammer (formerly known as Kion) was Kevin’s “foster fail” from Suncoast Humane Society just before the stay-at-home order went into effect earlier this year.
Kevin had an exceptional warmth to him and we all loved it when he laughed. There is something about Kevin’s voice always made you feel welcomed and included. If you attended last year’s King & His Queens (a musical dinner & drag show) you will remember Kevin’s voice as he was the guy behind the mic for our buffet and various games and prize announcements that evening.
Kevin often thought of his co-workers, whether through sharing a joke or bringing in his infamous barbecue or homemade jalapeño Dr Pepper jerky for his peers. Kevin was egoless with his work and those he worked with during his time at Suncoast Humane Society. He always gave his best to make this a better world for animals and people. Kevin is known for often saying: “Anything that can bring happiness without hurting others is awesome.”
Our hearts and warmest condolences go out to Kevin’s family and friends in this difficult time. Kevin will be truly missed by all of us.
