We held our Annual Members Meeting at the Boca Royale Golf & Country Club in Englewood on Thursday evening April 10, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. We were lucky to have Laura Bevan, Southeast Regional Director of the Humane Society of the United States as our keynote speaker. Her presentation "Are You Ready For The Next Hurricane Charley?" was enjoyed by all. Voluteer Ingrid Simke was on hand to photograph the event. Click here to see photos from this event.
Held in Greenstreet Park on Dearborn Street in Englewood on March 8th, this year's Pet Appreciation Day was a big success. We raised $13,000.00 for the animals. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to our co-sponsor PetSupermarket. We braved the weather and all had a great time (bundled in our coats and sweaters!!). We had agility demonstrations by the local 4-H, Pet Therapy mock evalutions, Mounted Police and K-9 Search and Rescue demonstrations, Pet Look-a-like contest, kids barking contest and much more. Most important of all, March 8, 2008 was proclaimed Pet Appreciation Day by Sarasota County Commissioner Shannon Staub and Charlotte County Commissioner Tom Moore! We've been holding a nine week Dog Obedience Class at our facility on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Attendees are being taught basic exercises needed to become good K-9 citizens. The course is being instructed by our Executive Director Phil Snyder and members of our Pet Therapy Team. Mr. Snyder is a former Professional Dog Trainer and AKC Show Dog Handler.
